Barlofco specialises in the marketing of environmental research
equipment used for sampling and testing of soils, sediments, water,
groundwater, as well as industrial / municipal waste sludge and
slurry - and for agricultural soil science research. They have been
a member of DCCI since 2000
Barlofco recently won a prestigious 24-month contract to supply
the Department of Water Affairs (DWAF) with DIVER groundwater quality
and quantity monitoring instrumentation.
With the introduction of the National Water Act (1998) the value
of groundwater has been elevated as it is now considered an integral
part of the larger water resources of the country.
Groundwater becomes especially important as a viable and practical
water supply resource for the under-developed rural areas where
conventional dams and reticulation systems are impractical. Therefore
it is now even more important to protect not only the quantity but
also the quality of this underground water resource -and the DIVER
groundwater monitoring instruments are ideal for this application.
Barlofco (as a member of the Groundwater Association of KwaZulu
Natal) was instrumental in arranging the recent DCCI breakfast meeting
presentation to Durban South Industrial Basin (DSIB) on groundwater
pollution awareness. This event was well received and begins to
address the possible implications of soils and groundwater pollution
in industrial areas.
Industrial property owners and tenants are urged to thoroughly
investigate their sites to identify possible critical pollution
issues and take the necessary action to implement proper rehabilitation
of their sites. Those with ISO-14000 compliance issues may also
wish to investigate the numerous solutions available for sampling
and testing of the materials, soils water and waste.
