Thursday, 8 May 2003, is the National 'Cell C Take a Girl Child
to Work Day'. The WesVaal Chamber of Business sent out several communications
regarding this empowering event. To date Kopanang Mine, Atlas Plastics
and Kopano Brickwork's have become involved and will be hosting
girls from local schools.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their
commitment to our future workforce. A further thank you goes out
to Elsa Phillips for her involvement.

In view of the Rand's volatility over the past 18 months, SACOB
is conducting a snap survey on the recent performance of the currency.
All businesses are invited to e-mail
us what their assumption for the value of the Rand against the
Dollar was at the time of their business budget/forward planning.
Please only indicate your assumption (e.g. R8.20). This information
would be of great benefit to SACOB, especially in light of the April
2003 BCI.

Two upcoming WCOB events for your diary include:
A cocktail evening with Richard Downing, Chief Economist
of SACOB on Thursday, 15 May 2003.
Richard will be discussing "The Impact of the
strong Rand on the South African Economy", and booking
is essential.
And
A 'power breakfast' with Indevco Industrial Development
Consultants on Wednesday, 28 May 2003.
Indevco will be discussing the various Government
incentives that many SME's fail to make use of.
Booking for both events is essential and open to both
members and non-members. Contact
us for more information.

The WesVaal Chamber
of Business website now contains sections that give the very
latest information in a variety of categories. Each area is updated
whenever we receive new information relevant to that category, and
members are encouraged to visit our site on a regular basis for

The city of people will be judged for the Cleanest City Campaign
2003 on Monday, 12 May 2003. A panel of judges from all over the
country will be visiting Klerksdorp on this day.
The City Council has made a special appeal to all businesses, residents
and educational institutions to make a special effort this week
in keeping their premises clean, especially on Monday. Random sites
will be visited by the judges with no-one knowing who will be chosen.
Furthermore, the Council would like to thank everyone who has already
made extraordinary attempts to put Klerksdorp on the map with this
campaign.
