Trade & Investment - 18 June 2003
Trade & Development
SAIIA (The South African Institute of International Affairs) has recently
established a trade strategy programme, called "Development
Through Trade". The programme, funded by the DFID and USAID, is being
managed by Peter Draper, a newly appointed research fellow. It aims to facilitate
dialogue between business, government, and civil society over trade policy
issues. In this regard, they have made available the programme's first publications.
Peter Draper's working
paper reviews the South African government's trade strategy with a
view to identifying its key drivers and likely future directions. The
Trade
Policy Briefing was compiled by Frances Perkins, an Australian government
official. From the perspective of a key Cairns group member it looks into
issues pertaining to African agricultural trade liberalization within
the context of the Doha Development Round of multilateral trade negotiations
in the WTO.
Please note that both analyses are in pdf-format and that Adobe Acrobat is
required to read it. Free software is available from Adobe for
this purpose. If you have any queries about the reports please call the Institute
on (011) 339 2021, or email Peter
Draper.
