PRESENTATIONS

  • Skills Development

    a) The four Colleges which now operate under one banner and name are: Taung, Klerksdorp, Jouberton and Potchefstroom under the name Vuselela College. Through legislation the landscape for FET colleges was created. Change was needed from the old type of training to make the students ready for the job market and to enable them to obtain a formal qualification.
NQI is a board overseeing that a national standard of qualification is kept. Learners are assessed against these standards. Different skills can be obtained and acknowledged. Syllabuses are compiled by the NQI. These syllabuses are learner centered. For the skills development program Seta's are instituted. Though they do not provide skills training they implement the programme through support and developing a sector skills plan. Develop and administer learnerships. Disburse levies and report to the minister and to the SA Qualification Authority.Through lifelong learnerships a learner can study in different fields at various institutes.
Businesses can enter learners into a learnership after registering their skills development plan and appointing an accredited facilitator.Through partnerships with businesses possible career opportunities can be established. The programme needs the support of business and industry. Business should obtain information through the Chamber of the advantages of being involved with training institutions.

The chairman thanked Dr Oosthuizen. Mr Brady suggested that we should have someone in the office that has access to all the information around the SETA training.

    b) Insp. Itumeleng Koalane, Sector Policing Manager not present.
